hudson-valley_shamarras-wish-story_final_101316“An amazing, awesome, unbelievable” wish come true is how Shamarra described her trip to Hawaii with her parents and four younger siblings. “It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!” exclaimed the smiling teenager. Everything ran so smoothly, from being picked up at their home, to being dropped off nine days later. Of all the activities, Shamarra loved the Chief’s Luau the most.

“Everyone was so friendly, the fire dance was amazing and they kept us entertained for so long.” Photographers captured every moment of her journey, and it will be looked back upon for years to come.

But what they couldn’t capture in a photo was how this wish renewed their family life. It was the first vacation they ever went on all together; the first time they were able to do fun things as a family. It brought the family closer together, and this had an enormous impact on Shamarra. Through her wish, she was introduced to new and positive ways of thinking, which will carry with her forever.

As Shamarra begins her first semester at college, she takes with her beautiful memories of Hawaii, of her family and how Make-A-Wish® supporters and volunteers made it all possible.
