RC, 7, muscular dystrophy
I wish to have a spa
A wish provides children and their families an experience of a lifetime—an opportunity to escape their medical condition. For RC, his wish to have a spa was a dream come true. At four-years-old he was diagnosed with Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy, a genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle degeneration and weakness.
“With his disease, his muscles are very tight and we spend quite some time massaging and stretching him to help with the pain,” said his mother, Stephanie.
On occasion RC is so uncomfortable that it becomes very difficult for him to walk. His legs can get so tight that his parents must carry him. However, RC is a fighter. He doesn’t let his disease deter him from enjoying life to its fullest—including swimming, which is an outlet for him and a form of therapy.
“RC could swim before he could crawl or walk,” said Stephanie, “but, getting to a pool was a challenge.”
So, RC wished for a spa where he could relax his body and muscles and spend time where he’s the happiest. Since the spa was placed in his backyard, RC spends most evenings enjoying the warm water, exercising his legs and has less complaints of pain.
Today, RC and his family spend more time together relaxing and having fun. The spa is life-changing and has significantly improved RC’s outlook on life. “This has been a blessing to our family. We are so grateful and can never repay or express our gratitude,” said Stephanie.
