Paige, 12, cystic fibrosis
I wish to swim with dolphins
Meet Paige. Paige loves the ocean, tennis, Minecraft, and sushi! She is very outgoing and active. To the outsider, she looks like a normal 12-year-old girl, but Paige has cystic fibrosis, a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. However, having a critical illness doesn’t stop her from wanting to live out her dreams.
For Paige, that dream has always been to swim with dolphins.
She was referred to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of North Texas by her social worker at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Soon after being welcomed into the Make-A-Wish program, Paige met with her wish granters to talk about her ideas for her one true wish. Their conversation centered around ocean activities and dolphins! As she researched various destinations for her wish trip, she kept coming back to Atlantis Paradise Island and the incredible dolphin experiences they offer.
Paige, her parents and older sister were ready for the warm weather and white beaches of the Bahamas! She had a special send-off dinner planned by her wish granters with her favorite food on the menu–sushi!
At the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, she and her family got lots of time to explore the incredible grounds, including the water park and marine habitat. One special day was set aside for Paige to realize her dream of swimming with dolphins! She had a Deep Water Dolphin Interaction planned where she got to glide alongside a dolphin and experience the signature “foot push” where she was propelled across the lagoon by a dolphin.
It was more than she could ever have imagined! Paige is so grateful to have had this precious time making memories with her family and especially grateful to all the wonderful partners that support Make-A-Wish and kids like her.
