GERD, 3 Tips For Avoiding It At Thanksgiving

When you think about Thanksgiving, delicious food and family probably come to mind.  But people who suffer from gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) may only think about what they can do to avoid foods that will make their acid reflux symptoms worse–burning sensations in the chest, pain, and regurgitation.

Suffering from heartburn and indigestion is no way to spend a holiday and may be avoidable by following the 3 tips below this Thanksgiving.  Always consult your doctor before making any changes to your diet.

  1. Say no to high fat foods – Opt for low fat dressing and stick with white meat from the turkey.               
  2. Eat proper portions – How much you eat is just as important as what you eat. You can still eat plenty of fun food, but consider keeping your meals small and spreading them out throughout the day on Thanksgiving.
  3. Go for lemon and ginger – Put in your water or tea, both can help regulate acid levels when taken in moderation.
